hECTICbOOKs

hECTIC bOOKs was founded in 2024 by Bence Kovács and Tímea Urbantsok who were classmates at the curatorial programme of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. We are a Budapest-based, internationally engaged publishing house that focuses on editing photobooks and artists’ books. We believe that the contemporary photobook is a work of art in itself, but collecting it is much more accessible than most artworks, therefore it makes a wider public art collectors. The photobook is a curated exhibition at the same time; it allows us to roam its space. At hECTIC bOOKs, we research what makes a book. Our method is to play with all the characteristics of the classic book format in order to find experimental solutions regarding material, printing technique, colours, folding, binding, cover and typography.
